Steadfast love

The steadfast love of God is sung in hymns. His love never ceases. But our understanding of love and God’s understanding tends to be vastly different.

As i was going through the first few books of the Bible, from Judges, Kings to Chronicles. The love of God was manifest through God bestowing peace and fighting Israel’s battles for her. When the king of Israel was deeply devoted to God, like King David or King Asa or King Jehoshaphat, God showed His steadfast love by delivering Israel from her enemies. When God fought for Israel, the enemies of Israel trembled in fear. How does one fathom that 3 armies gathered against Israel could turn on each other and destroy each other while Israel stood by without a single arrow fired at them. God did this for Israel inspite of the many betrayals and adulterous deeds of Israel where they chose to find their refuge in human alliances instead of relying fully upon God.

In the reading of the old testament books, i found the answer which in my heart i had been asking God. How does a Christian’s life look like. In the old testament narratives, we see beyond all the Sunday school lessons and see how a Godly people have interacted with a secular world. This was as real as it got. The life of the Christian/prophet/king/seer couldn’t have been more relatable. The facts of evil kings in Israel were not whitewashed to make the Kings of Israel seemed like they were more than human.

The best of God’s servants were not spared from the judgement of God as the records of Kings and what they did were written as how God saw them. And without fail, God evaluated each and every king, just as He would evaluate every single human based on whether they were committed to following His commandments.

Yet, somehow, if the king regardless of how evil he was would repent and humble himself before the Lord, God turned His anger away. Where people see a judegmental God in the old testament, God is always very clear that He punishes wickedness. He is completely impartial in His judgements.

Seeing the world today, where evil is called good and vice versa, i am glad that God’s standards change for no man.

But reading the love God has showered upon Israel, makes me cognizent of things we take for granted. That there is a cause and effect of war. Where a nation chooses to live righteously, the Lord grants relief from enemies. However, where we depart from God’s ways, peace is elusive. The love of God is seen where people can rest. Something that seems so basic but not all that basic when we think about it.

The times where i experience most anxiety and agitation is where i am furthest from God.

Wisdom and ability to do work also come from the Lord. King Solomon was the prime example. Because he had a sincere desire to see Israel succeed, he asked for wisdom to lead rather than wealth or judgement against his enemies. As a result, God granted him on top of wisdom, wealth, peace, success far beyond King Solomon’s imagination.

It is however like reading a tragic story. Where we see how well King Solomon started only to fail so badly. There was a huge ‘if only’ that ear marked King’s Solomon’s success. If only he had not worshiped other Gods. One can’t begin to imagine how much greater Israel would have been today if the King had loved God deeply enough to tear down the ashera poles that God so detested in Israel.

The story of Israel is marked by defeat after defeat. The only time Israel experienced true victory was when Jesus came down. In Him was a fully obedient King. He did what no other King was able to do. He was obedient, fully humble, never ahead of Himself, always seeking God’s advise even though He Himself was God. No other man existed who was fully submitted to God as Jesus. No other King weighed in as closely as Jesus where it came to humility.

And when contrasted with Judges and Kings of past, It was no wonder that God said, this is My Son, in whom I am well pleased.

    Filled with the word

There is something that reading the word of God that you can’t get anywhere. That is the peace that comes from reading the word. There is calm when i read through the word each day. While we go to movies, books to fill our time, time spent with the word of God is different. You come out feeling clean. No where else can you turn to for that sense of being washed clean. It is the place i’ve returned to for solace, and for consecration before God’s loving embrace. No other place. No other place have i experienced the same comfort i found in God.

      multi dimensions

while cancel culture reigns in the States, else where, a semblance of common sense still remains. As i reflected and watched i saw people like Trevor Noah being attacked by an interviewer for making jokes that he was Milk Chocolate, his parents were dark chocolate and white chocolate because one was a black the other was a white.

i saw Trevor’s class in the video contrasted with the narrow minded interviewer’s absolutely bigoted attempts to force the narrative that his joke about the colour of his skin were offensive. to a black such as herself.

The role of comedy then had that moment of glory where it stood for something more than a platform to make fun of people, but to highlight the hypocrisy of people in power. People who fight for inclusivity of but at the same time force feed their ideology down people’s throats. The modern day dictator uses social media. They label other nations as socialist and oppressive. In the same breath, they control social media platforms and eradicate ideas that do not align with theirs. The taking down of the book ” When Harry became Sally” from Amazon being an example.

They have taken a world of diverse thinking and made it a monolith.

The modern dictator dosnt need to burn books. They just need to control the spread of ideas and shut down anyone who questions them.

Its interesting to note that just 25 years ago when i was still in school, we were breaking out of an oppressive society that locked down freedom of expression. Where stars like Eminem who started off criticized for his lyrics became accepted as a norm. A society which painted people who wished to live without using offensive expletives as offensive.

Now, its taken a regressive step. People can no longer say for certain if a person is a man or woman for fear of offending someone else. 25 years later, men participate in women’s sports. And people praise it because they are living their own truth. While people who speak up against groups like LGBT are condemned for the exact same thing.

I wonder what will happen given another 10 years. How decadent society would have become.

At least in Singapore per sae, i pray that our society would recognize that a person with a male genitalia is a man, and a person with female genitalia is a woman. I believe there will be a pushback. A time when people regain their sanity to be able to once again say 1 + 1 = 2.

        identity

There are some things happening in the world that seem to be the sole preoccupation of groups of people. In order to go against the grain of society and challenge the norm, some have taken on this rebellious attitude of rejecting the sex they were born with and going for a sex change. Taking on a false persona of freedom fighters, men identify as women. Women identify as men. These group of people become recognized and become the darling of media outlets. The icons of the new way.

No doubt these people have not been restricted in anyway to bend the rules of nature and transcend humanity by being more human than human. The will to challenge nature herself and become something else altogether. The celebration of a delusion. This is something being force fed down the throats of media outlets these days.

there is a deep awareness looking at pictures of men dressed seductively in women’s clothing of self rejection. A rejection of their God given bodies. A challenge to God that we can do a better job of creating our own identity than He can. The words of God have not changed pertaining to all kinds of sin.

Non of these transexual or homosexual lifestyle is natural for a simple reason. any kind of reproduction from these groups of people requires a procedure. Unless a transexual man and a transexual women get together. The talk about homosexual tendencies in some species of animals as justification for it being something we are born with rather than something men choose is incoherent with nature.

It is sad that people support this blatant self deception. They celebrate it as though it were a virtue. Where a man who identifies as a woman is to be embraced for determining his own truth. In the same way a pauper who identifies as a rich man deceives himself and lives a lie, or the way that someone who believes gravity dosn’t exist, will eventually be subject to its laws. The procedures will have its effect on those who take hormones. Those who remove their breasts and cut off their penises lose a part of them permanently and they end up in a place where they are neither fully men nor fully women. No procedure will remove the fact that they had removed their God given parts.

So many have believed in a lie. The lie that they would be loved more if they did this to themselves.

Yet.. it is never going to be true this transitioning to the opposite sex. Perhaps, it would be apt, that this age be remembered as the age of Pinnochio.

          Arise Shine

Today happens to be my 36th birthday.

While i havn’t had time to really reflect. Then again, we never have time for anything till we make time.

I have so much to thank God for. His banner over my life truly is love.

His protection has remained by my side. His provisions have sustained my family. We have enough to get what we need and even spend on my little indulgences like smart switches and little gadgets to make my home that bit smarter. As i walked with Him through the years, i realized how many times He has protected me and guarded my steps that i wouldn’t be ensnared. Oh how good it is to submit oneself before a good God. For there is no fear in submission to a loving God. We have no worry that we would be abused or taken advantage of. The Lord indeed cares for my needs. Even when i overstep my boundaries, the Lord is gracious and kind and gives a way of escape that i may safely enter the narrow road. My God walks with me and teaches me with the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is gentle and kind. He advises me in my work when working with people, He always reminds me to work things out in a peaceable manner. The Holy Spirit reminds me when i ought to pray.

And even for my birthday, the words of encouragement i’ve received from family and the simple wishes become all that much sweeter. The Lord indeed is good. His mercies are new. His wisdom is gentle, assuring, steadfast. I have relied on the Lord and found His wisdom to always cut through any argument that is marshalled against Him with ease. His wisdom dosn’t need aggression. For truth validates itself. A soft answer filled with the wisdom of God can silence the thunder of wicked men. The Lord is faithful to me.

I wish i were more so towards the Lord. How often i’ve stumbled over the years. Yet, the Lord receives me again and again when i humble myself before Him. When i come to the end of myself, i realize i can fully rest in His mighty hand that is more than able to save. Jesus is indeed a sweet sweet name. A name of refuge and shelter. This 36th birthday, my wish is to know Him ever deeper. That He Himself would help me enter the path which He set before me to walk. That He would hold my hands. That i would walk in faith, obedience and humility all the days of my life.
